Our beginnings, and Early Days...
This video is one that Catherine Marshall’s founding Lighthouse Project, in Sandwell, prepared in order to tell the story of their journey, and to explain the principles behind their work and vision of support individuals and communities. The work inspired our vision for Middleton.
We are following in their footsteps, and the vision and impetus to set up the Lighthouse Project in Middleton came from the Lord, and from meeting Catherine when she was explaining how she was supporting people in her local community. Watch until the end.
The essence of this message is still very much true for ourselves which is why we have made the video available for you to see, and to understand the heart of where we have come from, and what the Lighthouse Project is about.
Roots to becoming the Lighthouse Project in Middleton
You will enjoy it, and I hope that it stirs your heart the same way that it stirred mine at the beginning of our journey.

February 2010 to December 2016 - Warwick Mill and beyond...
Faces of the Lighthouse Project 2008 - 2015
These are some of the faces of people who first volunteered with us, or who visited the Lighthouse in the early years of the project, 2008 onwards, up to us leaving the Warwick Mill in June 2016
This shows some of the building works we carried out to create the Lighthouse Project in the Warwick Mill, from Feb 2010 onwards until we opened to the public in June 2010.
At the start you can see photos from our Vision Meeting when we had no walls, or rooms, just furniture :-)
Our temporary move to the Cromer Mill, before our move to Middleton Shopping Centre 2017
This is a quick show around the Cromer Mill where we were based for 6-months between June-December 2016 after we’d been evicted from the Warwick Mill.
In Janaury 2017 we opened our third venue in Middleton Shopping Centre, and pretty well started again in terms of creating the warm and welcoming space that you see today. We appreciated the support everyon egave us.
Our move into Middleton Shopping Centre - Dec 2016
The video was taken just at the point that we were moving into the premises which is now our current Lighthouse Project home.
It is a walk around the existing shopping centre space to give you a sense of what it looked like before it became the Lighthouse Project v3.
We were given the space ‘as it comes’, including the remains of the former tenants possessions, and the space was made up of former indoor markets stalls, know as the Bazaar, or ‘In-shops’, and an adjacent retail store unit. You can see the space ‘as it was’ when we took it on, so, lots of vision and imagination was required to see what it could become, and before we had converted in into the space you see today.

The Lighthouse Project is part of local charity Inspire Middleton which raises all its own funding through grants and donations. The help and support of groups and organisations is just the type of thing that we need – are you able to donate and invest in helping us tackling poverty and building a better community?
