Volunteer Spotlight – Margaret White

What is your biggest inspiration? My mum.  Always thinking of others before herself and everything done with a sense of humour.

Volunteer Spotlight – Margaret White

We recently asked some of our regular volunteers to tell us something about themselves, some of their interests, their hobbies, and the like, so that we could share them with you.

  • How did you become a volunteer and why?
I had retired from teaching and wanted to use my skills in the community to help others.
  • What is your favourite place in Middleton?
Alkrington Woods – a quiet sanctuary and love to see how it changes through the seasons.
  • Ideally how would you spend every day?
With family – walking in the countryside (Yorkshire Dales) then having a meal in an old pub.
  • What was the best holiday you have been on?
Can’t decide – either driving through Europe in our new Fiesta in 1980 or walking holiday in Madeira.
  • If money was no object what would you do?
Buy a well-equipped camber van and hit the open road.
  • What one piece of advice would you give?
Repair, recycle, reuse – do anything to save resources for future generations.  There’s no plan(et) B !!
  • What is your biggest inspiration?
Who – my mum.  Always thinking of others before herself and everything done with a sense of humour.
  • Who would you like to invite to dinner?
Sir David Attenborough – I remember seeing him on TV as a child in the 1960s.  He loves planet earth and so do I !

Are you interested in volunteering?

All of our projects make use of volunteers who freely give their time and experience to our work. This can be done one or more times a week, for whole, or part days, to suit your availability. Volunteering is a great way to support others. We are always open to extend the range of skills that we can share with people through our volunteers, in turn this develops and expands our project capacity.
Your skills and experience might be just what we need. You could help us offer something that is missing from one of our existing projects, or you might be able to develop your own skills and interests through some of the activities that we run.
In fact our whole vision is about inspiring and encouraging people to do positive things and our work requires more and more people to participate. So, if that’s you then come and contact us, we’ll find you something to do.
