Celebrating our Volunteers – Pantry Team

The Pantry is currently one of our busiest areas of family support, and we have seen its membership grow by over 30% during the last six months

As part of our Volunteer’s Week celebrations we want to say a big thank you to all of our volunteers who support our Lighthouse Pantry project.

The Pantry is currently one of our busiest areas of family support, and we have seen its membership grow by over 30% during the last six months as the cost-of-living-crisis has tightened its grip on local families.

The Pantry makes use of supermarket short-dated and surplus foods, and in the last year, as part of the membership offer, we gave away food surplus worth over £105,000 at retail value. The Pantry is supporting approximately 110 members each week helping them to reduce and ease their food bills, typically saving them, on average, £1,000 per year.

We couldn’t do this without the support and commitment of some truly amazing people – Jonathan Wilson, Simon Beaumont, Joan Barton, Jayne Bennion, Linda Hilton, Tommy Cahill, Janet Roach, Andy Stott, Andrea Weekes, Verna Mayall, Cara Matthews,Tania Jamieson and Lorraine Caldwell.

Thank you for your commitment to the people of Middleton, and for all your hard work that goes on behind the scenes keeping this project running. (featured in photo Jayne Bennion and Joan Barton)
