Music in Mind Cafés offer support to you, and the person you are caring for
These free cafés are open to anyone who is experiencing dementia, or is caring for someone with dementia. They offer support and stimulation.
The cafés are fun and joy filled times of music and participation. You don’t need to have any musical experience to attend or join in, and the volunteers will help you and the person you bring to get involved.
The Music Café approach is a proven way of stimulating connection and communication that can often be locked away. It is a great way of enhancing wellbeing.
The Music café at the Lighthouse Project is every Thursday between 10:30 – 12 noon. It is a free event

Music Cafés are run by a combination of professional musicians and music therapists and our Music Champions. Music Champions are an inspiring group of people including professional carers, community group leaders and volunteers who actively provide dementia support in their local area.
Music Cafés are organised and run by Manchester Camerata’s ‘Music in Mind programme’ in conjunction with local partners such as the Lighthouse Project, using music therapy-based principles to improve the health and wellbeing of people with dementia and their carers.
Using handheld percussion instruments, participants will find new ways to communicate and have fun, whilst also discovering further support within their community.

From people living with dementia to professional carers and care commissioners, there are many people who have already felt first-hand the amazing impact that Music in Mind can have in dementia care.
Our Music Café sessions have all been developed from long term scientific research by the University of Manchester and leading dementia experts. The evidence and feedback we receive continues to show truly life-changing results.
Caring through music is about much more than just incorporating music into dementia care. We aim to ensure that every music session brings all involved the opportunity for fun, genuine connection and true expression.
The Lighthouse Project is part of local charity Inspire Middleton which raises all its own funding through grants and donations.
