Rochdale Council - Anti-Poverty Strategy 2024-2029
In Rochdale, we believe in being compassionate towards one another and helping and protecting each other from harm. Yet, right now, many live in poverty. It cannot be right that many peoples’ basic needs are not being met because of circumstances beyond their control.
Rochdale Council - March 2024
Anti-Poverty Strategy 2024-2029: This strategy sets out the Council’s vision and approach to tackling the challenges of poverty that are faced by its residents.
The causes of poverty are varied and complicated, but our vision is to improve the lives of residents and reduce the unfair and unacceptable impact of poverty so that residents can live happier and healthier lives. We will challenge poverty wherever we find it, and advocate for those whose lives are disproportionately affected by it. With compassion, we will continue to work together, to create a fairer and more equal borough.
This strategy sets out our priorities for tackling poverty in the borough and the specific actions we will take. We know that tackling poverty is not easy: it requires a monumental systemwide effort driven by
compassion and care.
We hope that this strategy makes it abundantly clear that poverty is unacceptable and is incompatible with our vision for the borough. We are committed to alleviating and, ultimately, eradicating poverty.
