Spring is already upon us and soon we will be out celebrating the Queens Platinum Jubilee right across the country, and around the world. Not wanting to be left behind preparations are afoot in Middleton in some unexpected ways.
Back in the autumn of 2021 the Lighthouse Knit and Natter group was approached by Pat from the Middleton in Bloom committee asking for their help in decorating the centre of Middleton for the forthcoming Jubilee celebrations. The idea was to ‘Yarn bomb’ the town centre with suitable bunting, to go alongside the planting and other decorations.
Ever eager to oblige, the Knit and Natter ladies picked up the red, white and blue wool and started to make both knitted and crocheted bunting. Creativity was the name of the day, with each lady adding her own personal touch to the strings of knitted shapes which began to emerge.
Other colours were donated and brought into the project, either as triangles, roses or whatever took their fancy. Eventually we were able to fill two boxes and invited Pat, the Middleton In Bloom chairperson, to come and collect what we had done. To say that she was overwhelmed was a bit of an understatement!
The ladies and everyone else at the Lighthouse look forward to seeing their efforts in place in the summer, and hope their contribution will swing success our way when the judging takes place in July.
