Jim Catterson, 79, is a recenlty retired auctioneer who never thought that he would get to grips with using a computer or the internet.
His family are all confident at using computers and his son is even a CEO of a large computer company, but it was his granddaughter using her computer that recently sparked his interest in having a go himself.
He was recommended to come to the Lighthouse Project by his landlord Keith who had also been on some of our Free courses, and this gave Jim the confidence to come on in.
Dave, one of the Lighthouse Volunteers, has been supporting Jim using our ‘Go-On’ Online Basics course. Jim has now learned how to use a computer safely, do online searches and how to start using email.
Jum’s family were truly amazed and over-joyed when they received an email from him our of the blue as they were not aware that he had started having leassons.
“This course has really boosted my confidence, I never dreamt that I would ever use a computer but now I’ve started it has opened up a whole new world. I’m really excited about learning new things, and I’m looking forward to finding out more about what I can do. They’ll be no stopping me now that I’ve got going”.
Jim’s son had promised him a new laptop if he learnt how to use it, and very soon he hopes to be able to email his family in Australia, and even learn how to contact them using a web-cam and Skype.
