Spring is in the air
Throughout the winter the Lighthouse Walking Group has continued its weekly walks, making use of the lovely green areas in and around Middleton. If you would like to join us get in touch.
The walks are usually followed by a sandwich and cake prepared by Charlie back at the Lighthouse Project base.
By way of a change – and an opportunity to avoid the mud and puddles which pepper the routes at the moment – Margaret resurrected a quiz walk around Middleton, using its rich heritage as a source of information.
The group was split into teams of two and each team was given a question sheet and a map showing the rough location of the answers.
Despite the rain, we made our way around the town centre, filling in the answers as best we could from our observations. Circling St. Leonard’s Church, we made our way into Jubilee Park, where again it was necessary to look around for the answers.
Margaret did stop and give the occasional clue or pointer but this didn’t help everyone!
During lunch, which today also included some warming soup, Margaret waded her way through the by-now-soggy answer sheets.
It was a close call but Jackie and Bernice (aka Two Ducklings) came out as overall winners with an impressive score of 18 out of 20.

The walks are usually no more than an hour and a half long and are led by trained leaders, under the auspices of the Living Well Group.
