The Army have requested DWP assistance in recruiting 500 individuals into the regular army to train in a variety of IT and Communication trades responsible for installing and managing providing radio,
digital and satellite systems in static and deployed locations around the world.

An additional 500 part time vacancies are available in the Army reserves in locations across the UK which directly support job seekers preparation for work and enables UC claimants to earn additional
income.   

Background

DWP is working closely with the MOD to maximise the number of JCP customers attracted to a career in the Army, regular and reserve. A Memorandum of Understanding between the two Departments enables
military recruiting staff to visit Jobcentres to promote service careers and encourages work coaches to promote suitable opportunities in the Army to our customers. Part time service with the reserves improves a claimants appeal to employers by developing
employability skills such as personal motivation, teamwork, problem solving and communications.  

Vacancy Specification

The Army's Royal Signals Regiments are trained to install and manage a wide variety of IT and telecommunication systems both in static locations and in deployed locations utilising high technology
equipment's. A variety of trades are on offer:

Communication Systems Engineers deal with digital, satellite, wireless and internet systems working with hardware and software provided by industry leaders.

·       
Communication Systems Operators enable the delivery of the communications infrastructure to the officers and soldiers who require it.

·       
Electronic Warfare Operators use sophisticated software to listen in to the enemy whilst protecting friendly networks.

·       
Installation Technicians install and maintain telephone and fibre optic systems

·       
Communication Electricians install and maintain generators to supply power to the communication networks

·       
Communications Logistic Specialists deliver communications equipment to where it is required.  

Individuals gain recognised qualifications throughout their training and subsequent service which are recognised by the civilian communications sector with many going on to have second careers with
the major telephone and internet providers.

Regular vacancies are open to both male and female applicants aged between 17.6 and 32.11. Vacancies in the reserves are available to individuals aged between 18 and 42 although applicants may be
older if they have prior regular service.
