Foodbank Update – 24 March 2020
For the moment the Foodbank is still staying open however there are new requirements in place to make the process safer and quicker.
Due to the ongoing demand for support from the foodbank because of the Covid19 health situation we have been required to change the way that the foodbank works, and to put in place some clear guidance and boundaries to reduce the amount of time people spend at the centre with our staff and volunteers, and because of shortage of food stocks.
In addition, because of the restrictions on social movement it is important that anyone who intends to visit the Foodbank is aware of these criteria that are there to keep everyone safe. Please be aware that access to the Shopping centre is being controlled by Shopping Centre staff.
These are the new requirements:
- Do not come to the Foodbank UNLESS you already have a red foodbank voucher – you cannot get a voucher at the Lighthouse Project or Foodbank.
- If you don’t already have a voucher you need to visit one of our community referral organisations listed here on the foodbank website.
- If you have children you can check if your child’s school holds vouchers.
- You cannot attend the foodbank more than once a week, and there is a limit to the number of times that you can receive vouchers.
We are not able to cover for families who normally receive free school meals, we do not have the capacity to do this and we would refer you back to your school or the local authority who are putting measures in place to support you directly.
