Steve Coogan makes surprise visit
We were pleased to welcome our patron Steve Coogan to the Lighthouse Project earlier this month, visiting with his daughter Clare and brother-in-law Mark, Steve spent time looking around our new premises and meeting some of the visitors attending a variety of activities.
Members of the weekly art group were encouraged by the impromptu visit as Steve caught up with Peter Baker and Steve Gumby, and attendee Nick also took the opportunity to introduce himself and show off his latest painting achievement
The foodbank was also in full swing during the visit so Steve was also able to spend time meeting our Thursday volunteers and finding out more about local food poverty and about how the foodbank has been helping thousands of local people since it opened in 2014.
Through the generous donations from local individuals and organisations we have received approx 66 tonnes of donations since we opened, and through our 51 community based referral organisations we have been able to give away over 57 tonnes of food to help feed in excess of 6300 people experiencing food poverty or crisis.
